Oklahoma City University: Scholarships and assistantship Information

Tuition waiver scholarships and graduate assistantships are available. These scholarships and assistantships will be awarded by the College of Arts and Sciences but please apply through the Graduate Admissions Office. Students with good GPA and excellent recommendations are encouraged to apply. International students must have a minimum TOEFL score of 550 (80 on the iBT) or 6.0 on the IELTS to apply for scholarships.
Scholarships available are as follows:Entering International Students:

Option 1: 36 Credit Hour / Flat Rate Scholarship:
• 36 credit hours to include tuition and university fees for a total of $21,000
• Flat rate of $21,000 must be paid upon enrollment by the first day of the first semester.
• This price is valid for up to four semesters (This includes the summer sessions.) with an extension of 1 semester
• Students must have a minimum TOEFL of 550/IELTS 6.0 or higher or completion of ELS 112 and a minimum incoming GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
• Not available with any other university offer
• This flat rate Scholarship is available to international students only. Domestic students should inquire about the Graduate Leadership Scholarship with a Graduate Admissions Counselor.
• Students who transfer to another university or discontinue their education at OCU, are eligible for a refund, if applicable and approved. The total amount of the scholarship benefit received, fees and other monies owed the university must be adjusted and paid before any transcripts will be released and transfer/discontinuance of education at OCU is authorized.


Option 2: 24 Credit Hour / Flat Rate Scholarship:
• 24 credit hours to include tuition and university fees for a total of $15,000
• Flat rate of $15,000 must be paid upon enrollment by the first day of the first semester.
• This price is valid for up to four up to four semesters (This includes the summer sessions.) with an extension of 1 semester.
• Students must have a minimum TOEFL of 550/IELTS 6.0 or higher or completion of ELS 112 and a minimum incoming GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
• Not available with any other university offer
• This flat-rate scholarship is available to international students only. Domestic students should inquire about the Graduate Leadership Scholarship with a Graduate Admissions Counselor.
• Students who transfer to another university or discontinue their education at OCU, are eligible for a refund, if applicable and approved. Option 3: International TESOL Graduate Scholarships (First Year)
• MA in TESOL $5,000 (TOEFL 600/IELTS 8.5 or above and GPA 3.00)
• MA in TESOL $4,000 (TOEFL 575/IELTS 7.5 or above and GPA 3.00)
• MA in TESOL $3,000 (TOEFL 560/IELTS 6.5 or above, ELS 112 and GPA 3.000)
o These scholarships are split equally between the fall and spring semesters. They are contingent upon an entering GPA of 3.0 and a minimum 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) for renewal in the second semester.
o These scholarships are for the first year of study (Fall and Spring) only with the TESOL Academic Scholarship (see below) and the Eun Ju Lee Memorial Scholarship (see below) considered for the second year.
o Students are eligible for the $3000 scholarship if they have successfully passed ELS level 112. This does not apply to the $4000 or $5000 scholarship.

• Students who transfer to another university or discontinue their education at OCU, are eligible for a refund, if applicable and approved. The total amount of the scholarship benefit received, fees and other monies owed the university must be adjusted and paid before any transcripts will be released and transfer/discontinuance of education at OCU is authorized.

Continuing Students: (Second Semester*, Second Year: Fall, Spring and Summer) TESOL Academic Scholarship (for students who have completed a semester in the TESOL program, are continuing in the program for the second year and have not taken the flat-fee scholarship options.)
• MA in TESOL (Fall and Spring) Up to $4,500(Max. $1500 per semester up to 3
must have 3.8 or higher GPA). Renewable w/a
minimum of 3.8 GPA.

Students must be enrolled in 9 or more credit  hours unless they are completing the program with fewer credits remaining.
This scholarship is awarded in the secondyear of study in the TESOL program and may coincide with the Eun Ju Lee Memorialscholarship.
*In those cases where students did not receive a TOEFL-based scholarship (Options 1-3 above) upon admission into the program, continuing students in the second semester will be considered for the TESOL Academic scholarship given that they have completed the first semester in the TESOL program with a cumulative GPA of 3.8 or higher. The scholarship can be renewed for two additional  semesters (Fall and Spring) if students maintain a cumulative 3.8 GPA or higher.

• Summer Scholarships: Students will have access to a summer fund.
o $ 1000 for 6-8 credit hours taken in the summer. (summer I and II together)
o $ 500 for 3-5 credit hours taken in the summer. (summer I and II together)
o Students may be completing the program with fewer credits remaining.
o This is a one-time payment for summer study. Students must have a cumulative 3.8 or higher GPA to qualify.
o Students receiving this scholarship may also be eligible for the International TESOL Graduate Scholarship and the Eun Ju Lee Memorial Scholarship before or after the second year of study in the TESOL program.

• Students who transfer to another university or discontinue their education at OCU, are eligible for a refund, if applicable and approved. The total amount of the scholarship benefit received, fees and other monies owed the university must be adjusted and pain before any transcripts will be released and transfer/discontinuance of education at OCU is authorized.

Eun Ju Lee Memorial Scholarship (for students in their last semester in the
TESOL program. The scholarship is in memory of Eun Ju Lee.)


• MA in TESOL Up to $1,500 (Max. $ 1500 for one semester for
an outstanding student in his/her last semester who has a min. GPA of 3.90 in all previous TESOL coursework and shows *leadership skills in the TESOL profession).

Students must apply for this scholarship by contacting the TESOL Department faculty. The number and the recipients of the scholarship are determined by the faculty of the TESOL Department on a semester by semester basis.
Students must be enrolled in 9 or more credit hours unless they are completing the program with fewer credits remaining.
This one-time scholarship is only for students in their last semester of Study in the TESOL program. Students who have received Option 3: the International TESOL Graduate Scholarship and the TESOL Academic Scholarship may also be considered for this scholarship.
